David Beckham Has Surgery On Achilles, So What’s Next?

David Beckham had surgery to repair is torn achilles tendon today and is expected to make a full recovery in four to six months. Beckham is definitely out for the World Cup and should be ready to return to the L.A. Galaxy sometime in August. He was originally slated to return to the MLS in July after the World Cup, so he will not be missing too much time away from his primary club. His recovery will be intense as he will not be able to run until four months out after surgery with another two before he will be fit to play.

The big question is what does this injury mean for the 34 year old aging superstar? His place on England’s World Cup team was to be used as a situational player with his free kicks and precise passing, and not as a starter. SB Nation’s Daily Soccer Fix has this to say about the future of David Beckham:

We’ll see Beckham again in a Galaxy shirt. And this will increase the chances that Beckham plays in Major League Soccer in 2011. His time in an England shirt and in an AC Milan kit are almost surely over.

If Beckham returns only to the MLS then this injury could be a blessing in disguise for the league since Beckham is still a big draw in the United States, and he can help continue to help grow U.S. soccer.
