The injury to Wayne Rooney was finally revealed Thursday, and it was learned he has minor ligament damage (aka an ankle sprain) to his right ankle which is a relief because there was speculation that there was a fracture:

Wayne Rooney Injury Likely Not Serious: England, You Can Breathe Now

It’s still an injury and it’ll still require rehab and close monitoring from the Manchester United training staff, but it seems Wayne Rooney and the English National Team have averted the worst-case scenario. The superstar striker will likely be out just 2-4 weeks according to Sky Sports:

High fives all around!

Wayne Rooney Injured In Manchester United Match, Left On Crutches

More bad news for England’s national soccer team: just two weeks after David Beckham tore his Achilles’ tendon, forcing him out of this summer’s World Cup, striker Wayne Rooney suffered an ankle injury Tuesday night near the end of Manchester United’s match with Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Come to think of it, this is not bad news. This is Wayne Rooney, the striker who’s scored 34 goals this season for United, and the likely pick for Player of the Year. He’s the new face of England’s national team. The World Cup begins in a little more than two months. This is potentially disastrous news, for all involved.
