The injury to Wayne Rooney was finally revealed Thursday, and it was learned he has minor ligament damage (aka an ankle sprain) to his right ankle which is a relief because there was speculation that there was a fracture:
Wayne Rooney’s Ankle Injury Revealed As Minor Ligament Damage
“We’re pleased to report that Wayne has not suffered a fracture. The scan revealed only minor ligament damage,” United said on its Web site Thursday. “For now, the club is not commenting on how many games Wayne is likely to miss.”
The club is not saying how long the striker will be out, but Rooney is expected to miss at least a month of action during the stretch run of the English Premier League. If he misses only a month, Rooney will be back in action to face Sunderland on May 1.
Club Manager Alex Ferguson will provide additional updates -- if there happen to be any -- tomorrow during his weekly news conference. Rooney definitely looks to be on track to captain England in the World Cup for their first match which kicks June 12, against the United States.
