It seems hard to believe that the officials would favor the young, small market Oklahoma City Thunder in a road game against the big-market, traditionally-powerful Boston Celtics, but it’s hard to ignore the fact that Kevin Durant shot nearly as many free throws (15) as the Celtics did as a team (17).
Kevin Garnett Bashes Officials In Post-Game Press Conference
Kevin Garnett noticed and was none too happy when asked about it in his post-game press conference.
Rasheed Wallace, never one to back down from bashing officials, agreed with Garnett, saying of Durant, “I mean he’s a good player, but damn, you can’t breathe on him.”
Meanwhile, Celtics Blog’s Jimmy Toscano wrote “Preach, KG” when he heard Garnett’s quote.
It seems a little odd for Celtics fans to complain about officials, but they do have a point in that they were called for some pretty ticky-tack fouls on Durant down the stretch. But perhaps this says more about Durant than anything. We know there’s a star system in the NBA, and while it’s annoying, it’s there. The thought that Durant has possibly entered that star system tells you all you need to know about how much he’s improved as a player.
