Around AL West Spring Training, 4/1: Garko Finds A (New) Home

Mariners: Garrett Olson was optioned to AAA Tacoma on Thursday. Kirby Arnold thinks this means Jesus Colome has locked up a roster spot, but Geoff Baker thinks the M’s will go with an 11-man pitching staff instead, keeping Eric Byrnes and Ryan Langerhans and dropping Colome...Corey Patterson opted out of his contract to explore other opportunities...Jon Heyman says the Mariners are still looking at Jarrod Washburn, but that the Royals are offering more money...Erik Bedard is scheduled to throw 25-30 pitches off a bullpen mound Thursday.

Angels: KLAA AM 830 and 710 ESPN radio have announced a partnership...Reggie Willits is probably going to begin the season on the DL with a hamstring strain. Terry Evans, who went 5-5 on Wednesday, will likely take his place, as Evans can play all three outfield positions.

Athletics: Eric Chavez is thrilled that he had an uneventful spring. Chavez, who hasn’t been able to escape the injury bug in recent seasons, made it through March pain-free, although he did hit just .195...Justin Duchscherer will pitch Thursday as he looks to close out an up-and-down spring on a high note.

Rangers: The Rangers grabbed Ryan Garko off waivers from the Mariners to fill their need for a righty backup 1B. The move gives the Rangers a full 40-man roster, and Max Ramirez - who was being considered for the job - was optioned to the minors...there’s going to be new food at the ballpark this year...Rich Harden’s March ended with 21 strikeouts and 15 walks in 22.1 innings.
