West Virginia’s Devin Ebanks Declares For NBA Draft

West Virginia was already going to have to adjust to life without Da’Sean Butler next season. Now, they’ll probably have to do it without one of their top underclassmen.

Mike DeCourcy of Sporting News is reporting that sophomore Devin Ebanks has declared for the NBA draft, though he will not hire an agent. He is currently projected to be a late-first or early second-round pick.

Ebanks was one of the best and most versatile perimeter defenders in the country last year. He averaged 12.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, which are solid numbers. However, his offense did not improve as many expected. Ebanks hit only eight three-pointers and saw his field goal percentage and two-point jump shot percentage take pretty big hits. Coach Bob Huggins attributed Ebanks’ subpar shooting performance to a thumb injury that was bothering him all season.

Ebanks could still pull out of the draft because he has not hired an agent, but SB Nation’s West Virginia blog Smoking Musket says “that prospect looks unlikely.”
