There was some speculation that Stan Kroenke was only going through with his bid to purchase the Rams because the NFL would lax their cross-ownership rules for him. As ESPN’s Mike Sando pointed out on Monday, surely Kroenke wouldn’t make this move unless he knew it would go through, right?
NFL Will Not Relax Cross-Ownership Rules For Stan Kroenke
Apparently there will be no special rules for Kroenke.
“The rule is clear and he recognizes that,” said NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told the Denver Post.
So if he can’t own another professional sports team in a competing NFL city, then that means he’ll have to sell the NBA’s Nuggets and NHL’s Avalance, right?
Not according to a statement Kroenke released through Kroenke Sports Enterprises.
“Mr. Kroenke and his family remain fully committed to Denver and each KSE-owned property.”
At this point we’re not sure what’s going on and, apparently, neither is the NFL, who is waiting to receive the official paperwork from Kroenke.
"He will have to address that," Aiello said. "It's a matter of the details. We'll have to see."
