The National Hockey League has suspended Pittsburgh Penguins forward Alexei Ponikarovsky two games for his hit on Islanders' forward Josh Bailey, according to the league. He'll miss the final two games of the regular season, in which the Penguins continue to battle with the New Jersey Devils for the top spot in the Atlantic Division and the second-seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
VIDEO: Penguins’ Alexei Ponikarovsky Suspended Two Games For Boarding Penalty
Here’s video of the incident:
Ponikarovsky received a major penalty for boarding and a game misconduct. The suspension is, quite shockingly, in line with previous penalties the NHL has handed out for this type of hit. They suspended Capitals star Alex Ovechkin for two games following his hit on Chicago's Brian Campbell back in March.
Consistency is nice.
