Sans Hanley Ramirez, Marlins Have No Trouble With D-Backs

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Cameron Maybin hit a three-run homer and Dan Uggla also went deep during a five-run sixth inning as Florida routed Arizona, 8-0, in the finale of a brief two-game series.

Jorge Cantu finished with three hits, drove in a run and scored once while Cody Ross also knocked in one for the Marlins, who earned a split and have won five of six overall.

Brian Barden, who took over at shortstop for Hanley Ramirez after Ramirez was benched by manager Fredi Gonzalez for nonchalantly jogging after a ball in Monday's 5-1 loss, finished 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.

Josh Johnson (4-1) hurled seven scoreless innings for the win, yielding just two hits and two walks with nine strikeouts.

In his first start of 2010 after being called up from Triple-A Reno, Billy Buckner (0-1) suffered the loss after yielding six hits and two runs over five full frames.

Justin Upton and Buckner posted the only hits for the D-Backs, who have dropped nine of their last 11.

Florida exploded for five runs in the sixth inning.

Gaby Sanchez started against Saul Rivera with a walk then later came around to score when Barden slipped a single to right for a 3-0 game. After a sacrifice bunt from Johnson moved runners to second and third, Chris Coghlan's grounder resulted in an out at the plate that left men on the corners.

Maybin followed by slamming a ball over the wall in left-center field to make it 6-0, then Uggla cranked a solo shot to the same spot for a seven-run Marlins edge.

Ross put the Fish up 8-0 in the eighth on his bases-loaded single to center, then Clay Hensley turned in a scoreless ninth to close out the victory.

Florida broke through in the fourth, as a walk, single and hit batter loaded the bases with two outs. Barden was also hit which forced in a run.

Back-to-back doubles off the left field wall by Dan Uggla and Cantu made it 2-0 in the fifth.

It was just the second shutout turned in by Marlins pitching this season, after Nate Robertson and two relievers blanked the Phillies, 2-0, on April 18...Johnson improved to 4-0 with three no-decisions in seven starts since April 15...Arizona had won three of four over Florida coming in...The Diamondbacks designated reliever Blaine Boyer for assignment to complete the Buckner transaction.
