With 36 seconds left in the first half of Wednesday night’s Eastern Conference Finals game, Celtics’ center Kendrick Perkins was called for his second technical foul and was promptly escorted back to the locker room by security. His night was over. With Perkins unavailable, the Celtics withered in the second half and were ultimately blown out by the Magic.
Celtics’ Kendrick Perkins Faces Suspension After 7th Postseason Technical Foul
Unfortunately for the Celtics, that may just be the beginning of Perkins’ troubles.
According to NBA rules, seven postseason technical fouls earns that player a one game suspension. The technicals Perkins picked up last night were numbers six and seven. However, the league can review each technical foul assessed, and rescind it if they feel it was not the proper call. Both of the technical fouls were extremely questionable, and most are expecting the league to rescind at least one of them.
After last night’s game, Doc Rivers had this to say:
"Didn’t think he deserved either one, but he got them,’’ coach Doc Rivers said. "Perk was bending down, picking up the ball and got a tech for being around. I don’t know how he got that tech.
"The other tech? It was awfully quick, but they called it. I did think Eddie Rush realized once he called it, he couldn’t rescind the tech because he forgot they had given him the other one. I don’t think Perk would have gotten that one, but that happens.’’
But don’t take mine and Doc’s word for it, take a look for yourself. (The first techincal happens right at the beginning of this video, and the second around the 5:50 mark.)

What is even more astounding is that Perkins didn’t pick up his first technical of the postseason until Game 5 of the Celtics’ first round series against the Heat, meaning he has seven technical fouls in the last 12 games. Even if the league rescinds the technical fouls, it still leaves him on the brink of suspension while the games only get more important from here on out.
