Oregon State's once-bursting quarterback stable has been reduced to three inhabitants, as rising senior Peter Lalich has been relieved of his scholarship following that whole DUI-of-the-Sea incident. SBN's Building the Dam has the details:

Riley said that Lalich, once the starting QB at Virginia, was looking at a three game suspension (anyway) for the alcohol related offense, and “it would have been very difficult for him, with that suspension, to continue to compete at quarterback. ... so he will not be on our team this year, and he will not be on scholarship.“Lalich was not expected to start, and apparently Coach Riley considers him to be of little enough threat to grant him complete freedom of movement:
“He may stay here and continue his education and finish school,” Riley said. “He’s been given a blanket release, so he could play anywhere within NCAA rules. Hi’s gathering information about other schools.“We’d suggest somewhere in Utah, if clean livin’ is what he has in mind. This is Lalich’s second drankin’ dismissal from a I-A team. He began his career at UVA but was kicked off by Al Groh following two alcohol-related arrests.
The lesson here being, of course, “don’t get caught drunk boating.” Or to take second chances seriously. Whatever.
