UVA lacrosse player George Huguely has been arrested for murder following the death of Yeardley Love, a female lacrosse player at the same university.

The team plays its first game of the tournament on Saturday night. Starsia isn’t expected to join the team until Thursday; he is attending the funeral of his father this week, who passed away last Friday.

As the investigation continues into UVA men’s lacrosse player George Huguely’s alleged murder of UVA women’s lacrosse player Yeardley Love, there’s another, far more trivial matter at hand. What about the Men’s and Women’s lacrosse teams waiting to play the NCAA Tournament?
From Charlottesville, the Daily Progress reports that both teams met yesterday and decided that they’ll continue their season and compete in the NCAA Tournament later this month. The women’s team is ranked in the top 5 nationally, while the men are considered title favorites, and will enter the tournament as the nation’s top seed.

Warrants and affidavits filed in a Charlottesville court describe the gruesome condition in which Yeardley Love was found early Sunday morning, according to two witnesses quoted in the documents.
Love was discovered face down on her pillow in a pool of blood, according to the witnesses. And, according to the responding police, there was a large bruise on her face which appeared to be caused by “blunt force trauma.” Additionally, Love’s right eye was swollen shut, and she had other marks on her chin.

Speaking to reporters outside of a Charlottesville courthouse Tuesday morning, Lawrence read the following:
“Until more information becomes available, it is our hope that no conclusions will be drawn or judgments made about George or his case. We are confident that Ms. Love’s death was not intended, but an accident with a tragic outcome.”

According to court documents from Rockbridge County, VA, George Huguely was convicted of resisting arrested and public intoxication in 2009 stemming from an incident in November of 2008. The punishment was six months probation and a $100 fine.

A senior lacrosse player at the University of Virginia was charged with first degree homicide Monday, the Washington Post reports. George Huguely, 22, is suspected of murdering Yeardley Love, a 22-year-old female lacrosse player. It’s believed that the two had a romantic history.
The crime was initially reported around 2 a.m. on Monday morning, when police found Love in her bed and quickly determined that, given the signs of force, this was a homicide. Police were at Huguely’s apartment by 6 a.m., at which point he was taken into custody. And, as reported, he’s since been charged with homicide.
