Broken Finger Sends Mark Teahen To DL

The White Sox have had a rough go of it so far in 2010, as, aside from Paul Konerko, Alex Rios, and John Danks, nobody's really stepped up to push the team forward. Now 22-28, the Sox are 8.5 back in the Central, and with their odds getting long, they might be only a little longer now that Mark Teahen has to go on the disabled list.

The White Sox placed third baseman Mark Teahen on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a fractured right middle finger and recalled infielder-outfielder Brent Lillibridge from Triple-A Charlotte to take his place.

Teahen hurt himself fielding a grounder at third base on Sunday. He was batting just .255, but that came with a league-average OBP. Lillibridge, meanwhile, has struggled in his exposure to the Majors, and his career average is .255 in AAA. Lillibridge gets the defensive nod over Teahen, but overall, he’s the worse player.

Nevertheless, the White Sox don't have much of a choice, as Lillibridge is expected to fill in for Teahen, along with a little Jayson Nix. Teahen might only miss a few weeks, but if he needs to undergo surgery, then he'll be out for a while.
