The Chargers on Friday signed Josh Reed leading some to wonder if he would be the potential replacement should Vincent Jackson decide to sit out into the regular season because of contract issues.
Chargers Signing Josh Reed Is Not Vincent Jackson Insurance
Josh Reed is not Vincent Jackson and won’t be his replacement, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union Tribune writes.
Where Malcom Floyd would move up to the No. 1 wideout spot in place of Jackson, Reed is a slot receiver.
Whether Jackson is around or not, Reed is more of a threat to Buster Davis’ playing time and the roster spot of Gary Banks and/or Jeremy Williams.
Tra Thomas -- an offensive tackle signed possibly as insurance in the instance Marcus McNeill goes the same route as Jackson -- did start running with the first team.
