It helps to be good, but when you can get a little help from the other guys, it’s appreciated. Trailing 2-1 going into the third inning, UCLA played some good ball and got some help from Florida to grab a 4-2 edge in each team’s College World Series opener.
2010 College World Series: UCLA Grabs 4-2 Lead With Some Help
Singles by Niko Gallego and Beau Amaral started the frame, then a perfectly executed double steal that caught the Gators napping moved each up 90 feet without a throw. Blair Dunlap topped one and rolled it to third, but Austin Maddox let the ball get through his legs at third base for an error and one run scored. A ball in the dirt got through the legs of catcher Mike Zunino and Amaral trotted home to give UCLA a 3-2 edge. Finally, Cody Regis hit a grounder back up the middle to score Dunlap and the Bruins were up 4-2.
UCLA starting pitcher Trevor Bauer usually has some issues early on, but gets on a roll after the first couple innings. If that’s the case here, the Bruins are in good shape, but there’s still a lot of game to be played.
