When news surfaced that Panthers WR Steve Smith had fractured his arm last weekend, his agent tried to spin it so that it appeared he hurt his arm at his football camp -- and not in an adult flag football league. The reason is because that could potentially violate his contract costing Smith some cash.
Panthers WR Steve Smith Admits He Fractured His Arm In Adult Flag Football Game
After the Panthers came out and said they wouldn’t pursue the issue, Smith admitted the injury didn’t come at his football camp.
Smith called into Charlotte radio station WFNZ-AM on Thursday, saying he put his team and himself in a bad situation by playing in an adult flag football league at a YMCA on Sunday.
Although Smith says he won’t play flag football again until he’s retired, he took shots at those who criticized him for doing it, saying football is not about the money for him.
His criticisms are not warranted and have little basis. It’s not Smith who should have been upset, it was the Panthers, because they put into his contract a clause that potentially prevented him from such activities as flag football. He violated his contract, which potentially costs the Panthers money (luckily for him he’s not missing any games) and the team would have lost.
