Heyman went on to say that Valentine would be on the bench by Monday, when the Marlins face the Mets in San Juan, Puerto Rico, but that is “absolutely not true,” Valentine told Joe Capozzi of The Palm Beach Post.
ESPN reports that Edwin Rodriguez, the Marlins’ Triple A manager who was named the team’s interim manager, will remain the skipper for the team’s trip to Puerto Rico, and then Valentine will take over after that. The former Mets manager was expected to received a four-year contract from Florida.
