England next play on Aug. 11, in a friendly with Hungary at Wembley Stadium, before opening Euro 2012 qualification in early September. And there is seemingly rumblings that Fabio Capello will no longer be the manager of The Three Lions by that time. According to Oliver Kay of The Times, Capello had been told the Football Association needs "two weeks to decide" on his future with the national team.
Fabio Capello’s Future With England To Be Decided In Two Weeks
Capello, a former Italian player, had managed four clubs Milan (1991-96, 1997-98), Real Madrid (1996-97, 2006-07), Roma (1999-2004) and Juventus (2004-06) before taking over England in January of 2008. He took time on Monday to answer questions regarding his future, along with the FA (taken from Kay’s Twitter feed).
Fabio Capello is asked: “Do you want to stay on as England manager?” Response: “Absolutely.”
Fabio Capello: “I refused a lot of opportunities with important clubs because I want to stay as England manager”
Capello: “When I chose the players, I decided the best players that finished the season. How many players were fresher?”
Is 4-4-2 out of date? Capello: “Good style depends on form of the players. It depends on physical situation, not style”
Are you worth the money? Capello: “When they picked me to be manager, they decided to give me this money. The money isn’t the value of the man”
The FA made a point to say that Capello is still under contract until Euro 2012, adding, “It makes perfect sense to go back to London and take stock. Nothing sinister.”
In 28 matches with England, Capello is 19-4-5, including a 1-2-1 mark in the World Cup, which featured a second-place finish in Group C and a prompt exit in the Round of 16 at the hands of a 4-1 thrashing from Germany.
