The 49ers were a team that popped up in recent days as a possible suitor for unrestricted free agent safety O.J. Atogwe. Part of the reasoning was Atogwe’s connection to the San Francisco area and head coach Mike Singletary.
Despite Atogwe’s Connections To San Francisco, 49ers Aren’t Interested
Atogwe went to Stanford and is currently rehabbing an injury in the Bay Area. He’s also dating Mike Singletary’s daughter. Despite those connections, the 49ers aren’t interested in him, according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.
The 49ers, however, have several young safeties, including Dashon Goldson, who like Atogwe is looking for a lucrative, long-term contract, and Taylor Mays, whom the 49ers drafted in the second round in April.
