Ever since the Steelers won Super Bowl XLIII in 2009, they’ve done what the Steelers always do: retain core players via long-term contracts and extensions. Anyone who is allowed to leave is usually expendable and can be replaced by a draftee waiting in the wings. If matters are desperate, there’s probably an inexpensive free agent who can be brought in.
LaMarr Woodley Wants All Candybars To Be Named For His Goals
Heath Miller, James Harrison, Chris Kemoeatu, Hines Ward, Casey Hampton, James Farrior, Max Starks - they’ve also reaped the benefits of this approach since the end of the ‘08 season. A surprising exception, however, is the young standout outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley, a first-time Pro Bowler last year with 13 1/2 sacks. He’s going into the last year of his contract scheduled to make an incredibly low figure of $550,000. And it doesn’t seem as though anything’s going to happen before this season starts on that front.
Luckily there are candy bar bearing fans at the phone store willing to help him out.
I'm at the phone store and this steeler fan gave me a PayDay candy bar and said its time for the steelers 2 pay u
That has to be the most legume rich contract protestation in the history of the league.
Woodley is in a peculiar situation in that he’s being prevented from getting a fair deal from the 30-percent rule in the current CBA, which as we all know expires next March. Unless something gets resolved within the next two months, as extremely unlikely as that is, it won’t be until next year at the earlier where Woodley gets to make good on the fan’s candy bar suggestion.
And of course, he made sure to let everyone know that he did eat the PayDay.
