The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on Monday morning that the Packers are “waiting for further developments in the investigation” regarding Brandon Underwood.
Packers Waiting On Facts In Alleged Sexual Assault Case, NFL Is ‘Monitoring Developments’
Underwood and six other Packers were reportedly at a Lake Delton party over the weekend where two women claim a player -- reported to be Underwood -- allegedly sexually assaulted them.
Per the Associated Press, the league is aware of the incident and taking a closer look.
In an e-mail to The Associated Press Sunday, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said, “There is an active law enforcement investigation and we are monitoring developments. As with any such incident, it will be reviewed under the league’s Personal Conduct Policy.”
This is the first time Underwood has (potentially) landed in hot water with the league so he likely won’t be disciplined prematurely ala Ben Roethlisberger.
Meanwhile, SB Nation’s Acme Packing Company has an excellent rundown of what you need to know.
o whether this story really has an impact on the team depends on whether charges are filed next week. Reading between the lines of what the players said on Sunday is that one player’s misjudgment got them all involved with the police, and they aren’t thrilled that their names have been dragged into his mess. But it’s not clear how serious this “misjudgment” was. We’ll have to wait until the district attorney says later this week whether it’s criminal misjudgment.
