    Facing Rotation Concerns, Cardinals Sign Jeff Suppan Off The Scrap Heap

    Time to see if Dave Duncan is really as magic as he’s made out to be.

    With Brad Penny and Kyle Lohse both disabled, the Cardinals had a hole in their rotation, so they opted for the easy sign in grabbing the available Suppan. The problem: Suppan was terrible with Milwaukee. The hope: before Milwaukee, Suppan was pretty good with St. Louis, posting a 3.95 ERA over three years in the rotation. The Cardinals obviously hope he can rediscover some of what made him successful so long ago.

    Brewers Release Expensive, Disappointing Jeff Suppan

    After 97 starts, 577 innings, and 358 runs, the Milwaukee Brewers have finally had enough.

    Jeff Suppan signed a four-year, $42m contract with Milwaukee after winning 12 games and running a 4.12 ERA with St. Louis in 2005. He was mediocre at first, and progressed on to bad, and by the end he’d been shifted to the bullpen in an attempt to both hide him and try to squeeze a little something out of his arm. Finally, the Brewers grew fed up, and released Suppan outright.
