I’ve railed against the ABC pregame show before. Here, I’ll do it again:
NBA Finals Game 3 Live Blog: Making Fun Of The ABC Pregame Show
- The whole thing opens up with a shot of “Cheers” before it goes into Dropkick Murphy’s “Shipping Out To Boston.” Nice contrast, ABC. Because nobody has ever brought up “Cheers” when doing a lead-in to a Boston sporting event. 1995 called. They want their reference back.
- Remind me never to stand next to Magic Johnson if I ever somehow meet him. I believe his arms would hit me if I did.
- Jon Barry says Rasheed Wallace is the key for the Celtics tonight if they want to win. This is a cliche choice. A more accurate choice would be Kevin Garnett, because he’s been awful this series.
- Stuart Scott just noted that the man with the middle name of “Bean” (Kobe Bryant) is going to try to take down “Beantown” tonight in Game 3. I’m very curious what happens whenever Stuart Scott and Chris Berman get together in an office to brainstorm terrible puns to use on the air. Wow, Stu! That’s brilliant! I can’t believe I didn’t come up with that pun! Get it? “Pun” instead of “one?” Aren’t I so funny?
- I feel bad for Michael Wllbon, a guy who at least tries to be insightful, even if he sometimes isn’t. It’s clear he does his best to try to come at things from a different angle than Jon Barry or Magic Johnson. Little does Wilbon know that, by just saying anything, he would accomplish everything he’s seeking out to do.
- On a positive note, the national anthem harmony thing was pretty sweet, as was Boston’s video intro before the starting lineups. Why can’t ABC just hire those guys to do their intros?
- Okay, one more positive note: this “legacy of champions” intro continues to be awesome. So glad ABC went to it in 2006.
Alright, gametime. Here’s hoping Jeff Van Gundy stays on topic and Mark Jackson decides to be silent. I know, I’m asking for a lot there.
