Throughout the season, many Lakers fans were apprehensive about Derek Fisher’s place on the roster. His game was clearly declining on both ends of the floor. He was taking poor shots and was often powerless to stop quick guards on defense.
Lakers Blog To Derek Fisher: ‘I Promise Never To Doubt You Again’
But as he did last year, Fisher has shown in the playoffs that he has some gas left in the tank. He’s been outstanding as the Lakers have made their run to the Finals, and after saving them last night with several timely buckets in the fourth quarter, it’s probably time for many of those Lakers fans to admit that they might have been wrong to doubt him. (If it helps, I, a non-Lakers fan, will do the same).
SB Nation’s Lakers blog Silver Screen and Roll leads the way:
Mea culpa, Fish. My bad. I promise never to doubt you again. Until I am given full and final proof, in the form of a Lakers team losing a series in the playoffs on account of your play, I will never criticize you on a macro scale again. You’ve earned a permanent refrain from disparaging remarks, at least in this space.
Maybe this was why Fisher got emotional after last night’s win. He’s had so many great moments, but rarely have they come after a season where his own fanbase doubted him like this. Sure, they doubted him last year, but not like this year. Fisher probably needed a moment to get all that self-doubt out of his system before talking about his performance.
