The bulk of the American and National League All-Star rosters was announced Sunday, but a few snubbed players still have a chance to suit up in Anaheim on July 13th. We have the details here.
Michael Young To Replace Adrian Beltre In All-Star Game
I have now completely lost track of who’s out and who’s in, but go ahead and add this to whatever list you’re putting together:
Beltre, who’s had a big bounceback season for the Red Sox, injured his leg over the weekend. Young has an .831 OPS for the Rangers, batting .301 from the second spot in the Texas order.

Heath Bell To Take Yovani Gallardo’s Place In All-Star Game
All-Star starter Yovani Gallardo recently landed on the disabled list. This created an opening on the roster, which will be filled by the Padres’ star closer:
Bell has a 1.72 ERA through 37 appearances, with 49 strikeouts and 14 walks in 36.2 innings. The closer has been one of the strongest parts of a Padres bullpen that’s been a huge factor in the team’s success.

Soriano has made 32 appearances this season, saving 22 games and posting a 1.42 ERA, with 28 strikeouts and five walks. The righty has been phenomenal, and even though he wasn’t an original choice, he still has to be ecstatic at being named an All-Star for the first time in his career.

For the 12th time in his career, Mariano Rivera was named an All-Star, a worthy honor for a closer in possession of a 1.08 ERA. Rivera, though, will not be participating in the actual game itself:
Rivera has been struggling through side and knee injuries for a little while, making his great success all the more remarkable.

When Angels ace Jered Weaver and his 2.82 ERA were left off the All-Star roster, there was much consternation. That has now been rectified:
Weaver, like Sabathia, is scheduled to start on Sunday, meaning that he, too, will have to be replaced. But this earns him All-Star designation for the first time in his career.

New York Yankee Andy Pettitte is making his third All-Star appearance and first since 2001, because Boston Red Sox picther Clay Buchholz was placed on the fifteen day disabled list because of a slight hamstring tear. Pettitte was next in line to become an All-Star and would have been anyways because of manager Joe Girardi’s decision to choose C.C. Sabathia who would have been ineligible to play in the game due to some new rules regarding a pitchers last start prior to the game.
There is no real controversy over Pettitte being named an All-Star since he has the stats:

Every All-Star Game has its snubs, but this one seems particularly odd for the resurgent Red Sox.

The All-Star Game will be played on July 13th in Anaheim. Unfortunately for the home fans, only one Angel will be taking the field that night, Torii Hunter. The exclusion of Jered Weaver from the All-Star list has many an Anaheim (and baseball) fan scratching their head. SBNation Los Angeles not only thinks Weaver should be there but he’s made a good-enough case to have been the starter.
Let the snub discussion continue over at SBNation Los Angeles and Halos Heaven.
