Shawne Merriman missed the first two weeks of Chargers training camp because he had yet to sign his restricted free agent tender.

That changed on Friday morning as Kevin Acee of the San Diego Tribune reported that Merriman signed his tender. The news was later confirmed by Merriman via Twitter.
Reports first surfaced several days ago that Merriman was planning to sign.
This means that he is now officially under contract with the Chargers and missing anymore training camp practices will cost him nearly $17,000 per day. Merriman reportedly wanted assurances from the Chargers that he wouldn’t be traded. As far as we know, they never agreed to that.
SB Nation’s Bolts from the Blue says Merriman’s arrival is very important for the 2010 Chargers.
I know this may not seem like a huge deal because we all knew it was coming, but it is. Merriman walks in and immediately replaces Larry English as the starter. If you're an optimist and think that Shawne still has the same power/burst that he used to and last year was a "recovery" year, he could potentially walk in and be one of the best pass-rushers in the league.
Merriman is now on a one-year, $3.269 contract.
