Patriots DE Ty Warren May Need Hip Surgery, Could Threaten His 2010 Season

Mike Reiss of ESPN.com has a bit of a bombshell coming out of New England.

DE Ty Warren is battling a hip injury that could derail his 2010 season.

The injury is similar to what New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez had -- a labral tear. The injury is not considered career-threatening, according to the source, but is likely to require surgery.

If Warren undergoes surgery, he is unlikely to play in 2010.

Since the Patriots selected him in the first round of the 2003 draft, Warren has missed just 13 games.

Gerard Warren lined up in his spot in Thursday night's game against the Saints.

Recently, Patriots defensive line coach Pepper Johnson talked about what the Patriots would miss if Warren were to miss extended action.

“The things that he does for the people around him and us, it goes unspoken,” Johnson said. “He is a strong character in the locker room. He is a strong character in our meetings. He’s a stand-up guy. He’s a guy that if he misses a play, or if he blows a play out there on the field, he stands up and says ‘that was me and that’s not going to happen again.’ You can’t have enough of those type of guys out on the field.”

Head on over to Pats Pulpit for more on Ty Warren’s injury.
