Real Madrid and Werder Bremen have reached agreement on the long-rumored transfer of Mesut Özil, the 21-year-old German international. The fee as reported by FourFourTwo is £12.4 million, or €15 million.
Real Madrid, Werder Bremen Agree 15 Million Euro Mesut Oezil Deal
The announcement was made official by Real Madrid earlier today.
The deal was finalized one day before Bremen was set to play Sampdoria in their UEFA Champions League playoff, a match that would have cup-tied Özil had the midfielder appeared. Instead, the Gelsenkirchen-native moves to his third club, having started his career with hometown Schalke 04.
Özil will join fellow German national team member Sami Khedira as Real Madrid summer signings, with the former Stuttgart midfielder having moved to the Santiago Bernabeu last month. With Kaká out with a long-term injury, Özil could see a major role in José Mourinho’s team once he settles-in.
Özil leave Werder Bremen having recorded 13 goals in 71 league appearance over two seasons. Now in his second year in Germany’s senior national team, Özil has 17 caps and two goals for his country.
