VIDEO: Nenad Krstic Throws Chair During Greece-Serbia Fight

I’ve watched way more of Nenad Krstic’s NBA games than I’m proud to admit, and I always figured him as a gentle giant. He’s known for his jump shot, not his ability to mix it up inside. I guess what I’m trying to say is that he’s one of the last players I’d expect to throw a chair at someone.

Except, that’s exactly what he did. A huge fight broke out during an exhibition game between Greece and Serbia, and it ended with Krstic winding up and pegging Sofoklis Schortsanitis with a chair.

Damn, Nenad. If only you channeled one tenth of that energy into grabbing some rebounds, you'd be a great NBA player. Though, to be fair, Krstic didn't exactly endear himself as the tough guy of this fight. As Tom Ziller noted:

Krstic was clearly the Carmelo Anthony of this fight. I couldn’t find a single instance where Nenad swung at someone who was looking at him, instead choking and slapping at Fotsis from behind (15-second mark) and pounding the back of Sofo’s head (34-second mark). Then there’s the back-pedalling flight, no less wimpy than Melo’s moonwalk across Madison Square Garden. And finally, the coup de wuss: the chair toss, which misses the intended target by at least 10 feet, hits a guy in street clothes and leads to a second Krstic back-pedal. The only thing missing is a flop. I hope Krstic’s reputation never lives this down.

For his efforts, Krstic was held overnight in jail, which is appropriate considering he threw a chair. (Speaking of: why, exactly, was there a folding chair laying around the court?).

Anyway, as entertaining as this fight was, it could have been so much better if Darko Milicic was involved. It was after a Greece-Serbia game several years ago where he had this to say.

Alas, we’re stuck with Krstic and his flee-and-throw-a-chair routine. Oh well.
