At the midway point of the 2009 season, Texans tight end Owen Daniels was on the threshold of breakout stardom. He was on pace to set a career high in receiving yards and possibly eclipse 1,000 on the season. He had already set a career high for touchdowns in a season.
Can Owen Daniels Return To 2009 Form?
↵If the foreboding tone in that last paragraph didn’t tip you off, things soon went awry. Daniels went down with a torn ACL in Week 8 and missed the remainder of the season.
↵If Wes Welker has had enough time to recover from an MCL and an ACL injury in Week 17, then surely Daniels is ready to return to form. Daniels sent a text message to Houston’s Fox affiliate on Tuesday saying his right knee is now at 100 percent and that he is only doing a routine check-in with Dr. James Andrews.
↵Of course, even if that’s true, the fact that the offense is being run by a new coordinator lends even more uncertainty to Daniels’ fantasy value. Had he stayed healthy and Kyle Shanahan remained, Daniels might be among the top three tight ends available. Instead, he’s more likely in the back half of the top 10.
