Vikings WR Sidney Rice Has Hip Surgery, Could Miss Half The Season

On Monday the Vikings surprisingly signed free agent WR Javon Walker. The move was strange because it's hard to see where Walker fits.

On Tuesday, we found out why they may need insurance at receiver.

Chip Scoggins of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports WR Sidney Rice has had hip surgery. It’s been reported that hip surgery was an option for Rice but he communicated to Scoggins that he did have surgery and it “went well.”

The Star Tribune reported on Monday night that hip surgery could knock out Rice for half the season.

He’s currently on the physically unable to perform list. The Vikings can place keep him on that list which would cause him to miss at least the first six games of the season.

WR Percy Harvin is also going through medical problems related to his collapse on the field last week. He’s reportedly expected to start practicing this week.

With Rice out, Walker may actually stand a chance at making the roster.
