We can now officially close the book on Nick Johnson’s 2010 season. Johnson had already been out since May with a wrist injury, but it seems he’s suffered a setback. I know, right?
Second Wrist Surgery To End Nick Johnson’s Season
Nick Johnson will have wrist surgery, Girardi just announced. Another lost season.
Johnson’s campaign ends at 24 games and 98 plate appearances. It’s just another bad break for a guy with a long history of bad breaks, and doubly unfortunate considering all the promise of Johnson’s 2009, in which he played 133 games and posted an .831 OPS. Just when it looked like his career might turn the corner, he goes and does this. Again.
Johnson is set to become a free agent this winter. What this means for the Yankees is that Lance Berkman will continue to serve as the regular DH once he’s back from the disabled list.
