NASCAR In Watkins Glen: Montoya Snaps Long Winless Streak

Boris Said and Tony Stewart had vastly different opinions on what caused their crash at Watkins Glen on Sunday.

Both said they needed to speak to the other to determine what happened, because each felt he wasn’t the one at fault.

Over the past couple months, I’ve noticed that Kurt Busch has repeatedly made comments about the “People magazine” aspect of NASCAR.

His disdain for the celebrity/personality element of the sport and what he calls the “he-said, she-said” stuff – the media coverage of driver rivalries – has been apparent.

After being fined an undisclosed amount by NASCAR for comments he made on Twitter, Denny Hamlin says he’s been forced to cut back on his use of social media.

“I’d say half of the time that I was on there was discussing NASCAR stuff and whatnot,” he told reporters on Friday. “They really don’t want me going there, so I’m not going to go there. It’s just one of those things.”

Now that 11th-place Greg Biffle has distanced himself from the rest of the Chase bubble thanks to his win at Pocono last week, 12th-place Clint Bowyer occupies the only remaining playoff spot that could be realistically taken by another driver.

Just 34 points ahead of Mark Martin, Bowyer said he knows the final five races before the Chase are time for him to “get up on the wheel and make things happen.”

It’s the start of a gorgeous weekend here in central New York, with perfect weather in the forecast and the potential for “Have at it, boys” to return on the Watkins Glen International road course.

Personally, I’m just glad to be here after long day and night of travel delays.
