Virginia Tech’s fate was sealed with a “roughing the punter” call in the final seconds, and with that, James Madison University has pulled off the biggest upset that college football has seen in years.
James Madison Delivers Historic Upset To No. 13 Virginia Tech, 21-16
JMU entered hostile Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virginia, and rallied from a 16-7 deficit to knock out the No. 13 Hokies. This is easily the biggest moment in the history of the school’s athletic program, and appropriately enough, the Dukes stormed Lane Stadium after the whistle and made it their own.
And there it is. The Hokies open the season 0-2, and Division I-AA James Madison is back on the football map.
