The Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers will meet at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, MO for the Monday Night Football. It's the start of a new NFL season for both teams.
Chiefs Vs. Chargers: Monday Night Football Returns To Kansas City
For the Chiefs, they’re hoping they can turn over a new leaf and make Arrowhead the intimidating force it once was. For the Chargers, it’s about sustaining their domination over the rest of the AFC West.
The Chiefs focus coming into this game will be the running game. The second half breakout season from Jamaal Charles in 2009 has a lot of folks -- particularly fantasy football players -- excited about the Chiefs run game. Add in Thomas Jones and all of a sudden the Chiefs think they have one of the better rushing attacks in the NFL.
The Chargers are focused on winning despite missing several major pieces from last year's 13-win team. Missing from last year will be LaDainian Tomlinson. To replace him, the Chargers are looking at a combination of rookie Ryan Mathews and Darren Sproles. Also missing for the Chargers is their top receiver, Vincent Jackson, and starting left tackle, Marcus McNeill. Both have yet to sign their restricted free agent tenders.
The Chargers clearly hold the advantage in this game but the Chiefs may have a couple of x-factors. First, the Chiefs hope Arrowhead Stadium can turn into the 12th man once again. It's the first time the Chiefs have opened the season on Monday Night Football in team history and the first time they've hosted Monday Night Football in seven years. They also hope return man Javier Arenas can remind them of another x-factor, Dante Hall.
The Chargers are the favorites in this game but the Chiefs are hoping their revamped running game can lead them to victory.
This is the second of two Monday Night Football games so it’s a late start at 9:15 p.m.
