Bob Melvin Added To List Of Cubs Managerial Candidates; Fredi Gonzalez Removed

You can go ahead and add a new name to the list of people the Cubs are considering for their managerial vacancy:

The Chicago Cubs are expected to interview Bob Melvin, a former manager for the Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks, for their managerial position sometime around the end of the season, a source confirmed Tuesday.

Melvin has been involved in talks with the Cubs before, but was passed over in favor of Dusty Baker. Over his career with the Mariners and Diamondbacks, he has amassed a 493-508 record, with one trip to the playoffs in 2007.

After adding Melvin to the list, though, you should also then go and remove Fredi Gonzalez.

A source says Fredi Gonzalez turned down interview with Cubs for MGR job. Braves apparently are his preferred destination when Cox leaves.less than a minute ago via web

Gonzalez was never considered a favorite with Chicago, and so his decision here doesn’t really change very much.
