Mike Quade Hire Has Implications For Joe Girardi

One of the interesting angles to the Mike Quade hiring by the Cubs is what it means for Joe Girardi. Girardi, of course, is currently the manager of the Yankees, but his three-year, $7.5 million contract is set to expire as soon as his 2010 season ends. At that point, he'll need to re-negotiate, and now he's lost his leverage.

Girardi has ties to Chicago and previously spent a few seasons playing for the Cubs. There was some thought that he could end up the solution to their managerial vacancy. Now that Quade has been hired full-time, though, that possibility is gone, and Girardi has nowhere else to go.
