The Patriots had made it plainly obvious that Laurence Maroney had little future their team in either the immediate or the extended future. He got little chance to establish himself as the lead back for the Pats after struggling down the stretch late in 2009. It continued a general theme of disappoint that has marked almost all of Maroney’s career with the Patriots.
The Fantasy Implications Of Laurence Maroney Going To Denver
↵The emergence of the seemingly renewed Fred Taylor made Maroney’s presence in New England that much less desired, so the Pats shipped him to the Broncos, where Josh McDaniels is stuck in a pitched fight with the Chiefs as to which team is more willing to accept former Patriots.
↵In Denver, Maroney will back-up starter Knowshon Moreno, who had a respectable season opener with 64 total yards and a touchdown. The Broncos still have Correll Buckhalter on the roster, but lost LenDale White for the reason, which necessitated the move for roster depth.
↵Maroney didn’t touch the ball for the Pats in Week 1 and barring injury, wasn’t likely to take much away from their current staple of ball carriers. So his departure doesn’t suddenly make Taylor any more enticing a fantasy option than it did before, but it does grant security left he have a subpar performance.
