NFL Victory Of The Week: Chiefs Monday Night Upset Of Chargers

Prilosec presents the NFL Victory of the Week. In Week 1, it just had to be the Kansas City Chiefs, who shocked the San Diego Chargers to go 1-0 on the season and grab a (very early) lead in the AFC West lead.

Each week on SBNation.com we’ll have the NFL Victory of the Week, presented by Prilosec. The winning team is decided by conducting a poll on Tuesdays across all of the SB Nation NFL blogs throughout the 2010 season, with you -- the readers -- voting for the biggest win of each week.

This week's winner is the Kansas City Chiefs.

An organization that's been down on its luck recently, the Chiefs took on perennial-playoff-power San Diego, an AFC West rival, and clocked the upset to go 1-0 on the season. At the time of this post, they had 6,531 votes for a 35% share. The only true rival this week was the Houston Texans victory over the Indianapolis Colts. Another worthy game to be sure, and they got 4,568 votes for a 25% share.

SB Nation’s Chiefs blog, Arrowhead Pride, explains why the Chiefs were worthy of the Victory of the Week:

The Kansas City Chiefs victory over the San Diego Chargers was not only the biggest win of the first week of the 2010 NFL season, it was the a significant step for the Chiefs as an organization. They've been losers the last three years -- just 10 wins in that time span -- so to beat the defending division champs in a renovated and rockin' Arrowhead Stadium was a big win for the city.

The Chiefs were expected to compete against the Chargers partly because of the advantage Arrowhead Stadium brings but I don't think anyone imagined they would win with a 56-yard touchdown run, 94-yard punt return and a Matt Cassel touchdown pass that was set up by a forced fumble and return.

To put it simply, everything went the Chiefs way. They're not going to win many games when their quarterback throws for 70 yards but, for at least one week, the Chiefs are atop the AFC West thanks to their Prilosec Victory Of The Week.
