The Bears have yet in the preseason to produce the kind of offensive fireworks that fans were promised with Mike Martz now running the offense.
Jay Cutler Forgets That Everyone Goes Vanilla In The Preseason
↵While that doesn’t necessarily mean things are in dire straits, with an entirely new offensive system being installed, you generally want to see some progress being made as the season approaches. Quarterback Jay Cutler, however, wishes to caution against full-on panic by telling the media that the playcalling has been vanilla during the preseason and that the reins will be taken off once the regular season begins.
↵That raises the question: what offense isn’t going vanilla in the preseason? Very few and the same goes for defenses, even with the perceived increase in blitzes. Cutler has to say something reassuring to keep a critical local media placated, but no is really going to know the extent of his progress until Week 1.
↵While the complexity of Martz’s offense can be a mixed blessing to offenses, it usually reaps benefits for quarterbacks, which should make Cutler an intriguing option once the elite quarterbacks come off the board.
