The Arizona Diamondbacks offered Kevin Towers an opportunity to become their new general manager, and, according to Yahoo!‘s Tim Brown, it’s a done deal. Towers will make a base salary lower than the $2 million he was making with the Padres, but there are escalators in place that could raise that total, and his is a two-year contract that comes with at least two additional option years.
The team has asked current interim GM Jerry DiPoto to remain on board in some other position, but it remains to be seen what he decides.

There’s no confirmation quite yet, but following rumors that Kevin Towers had become the front-runner to take over as the Diamondbacks’ next general manager, Jim Bowden reports that Arizona is actually prepared to offer Towers the job:

While it’s difficult to say definitively whether the organization would be in better hands with Towers or DiPoto, Towers is the more experienced and widely-respected of the two, and had a largely positive track record with the Padres. He is most definitely a desirable candidate.
