Changes are starting to filter through the NFL after a couple of weeks of action. We have a new starting QB in Philadelphia, and injuries take their toll, again. Time to open the mailbag to see what’s on your mind.
Fantasy Football, Week 3 Q&A: Mike Vick Is Up, Larry Fitzgerald Is Down
Joel Thorman checks his fantasy football mailbag and answers your questions.
So Michael Vick is the starter now in Philly, would you dump Kevin Kolb? Or is this situation going to be fluid all season? - Craig in PA
I’d hang onto Kevin Kolb for the time being. If Andy Reid is to be believed -- and that’s questionable at this point -- Kolb still has a future with the Eagles. Whether that’s two years down the line or two games down the line, we don’t know. The Eagles have a very good offense and Kolb has a shot to play, so I would definitely hang onto him if he’s not affecting the rest of your roster. Hey, it can’t hurt. It’s not like anyone knows what’s going on with the Eagles at this point.
What to do about Larry Fitzgerald? I drafted him high, but he's killing me. Would you hold out hope things get better in Arizona, or would you try to make the trade now based on his name-value? - Brian in CO
I have the same problem as you, Brian. I would hold out hope that things get better. Fitzgerald is among the best receivers in the NFL so it’s expected that he’ll come around and put up numbers similar to the last couple of years. There’s some concern with their quarterback situation but Fitzgerald is too good to give up on. Plus, his trade value is very low right now so you wouldn’t be getting the most bang for your buck.
With Kevin Faulk out in New England, is there any hope for a Patriots RB in fantasy? - Scott in CA
Maybe as a third running back in some leagues but Patriots running backs haven’t been good fantasy bets since Corey Dillon. They’re always going to pass the ball first so Patriots running backs aren’t the best option. You’re better off finding another back that’s splitting carries.
Do you trust Louis Murphy as a legitimate fantasy WR, or is everyone jumping the gun here? - Mark in CT
No, I don’t trust him as a fantasy receiver. You can’t trust anything with the Raiders. You just don’t know what they’re going to do next. Right now, they’re deciding between Bruce Gradkowski and Jason Campbell. A great receiver like Larry Fitzgerald can overcome a poor quarterback but Murphy is not Fitz. I wouldn’t expect any sort of consistent play from Murphy.
Should I hold onto Reggie Bush, or should I free up the roster spot? I'm not sure if he'll be ready to go once he returns and I need RB help now. - Charles in LA
Charles, I asked myself this same question. I’m going to hold onto him until a better option opens up. I have room on my bench to hold him for the next month (or more) and I don’t expect to find another free agent option. Keep Bush if you have the roster room. He’s not the fantasy player we once thought he would be but he’s still worth it.
