Jim Edmonds has had the kind of season you'd expect from an aged possible Hall of Famer who gives everything on every play. He's been productive when healthy and infrequently healthy, posting an .846 OPS between injuries to his oblique and Achilles. This last one, though, came up again Tuesday night, and now things sound pretty serious:
Jim Edmonds May Be Done For Season, Career With Achilles Injury
Edmonds hit a second-inning home run to right field for the Reds off Brewers starter Dave Bush, but he hobbled as he rounded second base and had to exit the game. After Cincinnati's 4-3 victory, Edmonds said he believed he might have torn the right Achilles tendon that has bothered him much of this season.
Edmonds felt a pop as he was jogging, and though more won’t be known until medical test results are out, this doesn’t sound very good. Edmonds has previously indicated that he’s leaning towards retirement after 2010, and if he does indeed have a season-ending injury, he’ll close the book with 1949 hits and a career-ending home run.
