In the same year we mourned the loss of Raiders great Jack Tatum we do the same for another Raiders legend.
NFL All-Time Great George Blanda Passes Away At The Age Of 83
George Blanda died on Monday at the age of 83.
The Raiders issued a statement on Monday mourning Blanda’s death.
”We are deeply saddened by the passing of the great George Blanda. “George was a brave Raider and a close personal friend of Raiders Owner Al Davis.”
The quarterback and kicker was among the NFL’s best ever amassing a ridiculous 2,002 points -- a record that stood from his retirement in 1975 to 2000 -- over his 26-year career.
- Career field goal attempts: 637
- Most PATs made and attempted: 943-of-959
- Most career games: 340
- Most career years: 26
Here’s the run down on Blanda’s amazing 26-year career that included the NFL and the AFL:
- NFL Chicago Bears (1949)
- NFL Baltimore Colts (1950)
- NFL Chicago Bears (1950-1958)
- AFL Houston Oilers (1960-1966)
- AFL Oakland Raiders (1967-1969)
- NFL Oakland Raiders (1970-1975)
We’ll never see another George Blanda again. Maybe it’s because the NFL game is bigger, faster and stronger these days but Blanda truly was a unique legend.
