Croatia impressed in their Euro 2012 qualification opener, winning 3-0 at Riga over a Latvia team that had caused Group 2 a few problems in World Cup qualifying. No such problems manifested today for Slaven Bilic’s team, who got goals from Mladen Petric, Ivica Olic and Darjio Srna to move to the top of Group F.
Target man Petric put Croatia up minutes before intermission, heading the first goal home from a few yards out. Only six minutes after half, Bayern Munich forward Ivica Olic finished off a Petric cross to give the Croats a 2-0 lead, with Srna scoring on an 18-yard drive late in the second half.
The goal difference vaults Croatia to the top of Group F, moving ahead of Israel, who defeated Malta 3-1 yesterday.
