Mike Williams was the tenth selection of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. He had a mediocre at best rookie season, only to be an overweight washout who compiled fewer than 200 yards the next two season before what looked to be the effective end of his NFL career with the Titans in 2007.
So... Is There Any Reason To Trust Mike Williams?
↵Against all odds, Williams is back with the Seahawks. And now that T.J. Houshmandzadeh has been released for monetary reasons, unless the Chargers will suddenly permit a trade to take place, Williams is going to be a starting receiver for an NFL team.
↵Williams has had a halfway impressive preseason, and Pete Carroll no doubt has fond memories of coaching Williams at USC, but it’s hard to believe at this point, especially after three NFL season of not catching a pass in the league that Williams is prepared to make an impact. Granted, the guy is 26 years old and 6’ 5”, meaning the physical tools are certainly there, while the excess weight appears not to be. At the same time, even if an owner in a deep fantasy league suddenly finds themselves in need of an emergency WR3, is Williams really a viable option. Certainly a considerable leap of faith will be involved.
