The Arizona Wildcats have gone on a shocking run in the second half of their Sweet 16 game against Duke, and are on the verge of upsetting the defending champions. The Wildcats have outscored Duke 39-19 in the second half, with Derrick Williams punctuating the run with an emphatic tomahawk slam. Well, at least until Jamelle Horne put Miles Plumlee on a poster with a right-handed jam to give the Wildcats a 77-63 lead with 6:47 left.
Derrick Williams, Arizona Putting On A Show Vs. Duke In Sweet 16
Williams has 30 points, 11 rebounds and three steals, but it has been his supporting cast that has stepped up. Horme, Lamont “Momo” Jones and others have made huge plays, and Duke has completely wilted.
Duke got a bucket when Kyle Singler scored on a layup, and Andre Dawkins cut the lead back to eight points with two free throws. But Lamont “Momo” Jones continued his superb game with a stepback jumper in the corner over Kyle Singler, and Duke committed a turnover on the ensuing possession. Arizona pushed the lead back to 12 points when Solomon Hill got a layup. After two free throws by Kyrie Irving, Williams put the exclamation point on the game with the tomahawk slam.
