Cam Newton Is Heavy Favorite To Be Picked No. 1 By Panthers

In years past, the Panthers could start negotiating with the top pick prior to the draft. This year, with the NFL lockout, that can’t happen so we’re left wondering who they’ll pick.

It’s the question of Clausen’s future in Carolina that SB Nation’s Cat Scratch Reader is talking about as the draft nears.

This is the question in the draft. Once we know the answer to it, the top of the draft becomes slightly more clear.

The Carolina Panthers hold the top pick in the 2011 NFL draft and plenty of folks are predicting they’ll go with Auburn QB Cam Newton. Several weeks ago, many were predicting their pick would be Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert but that was apparently an anomaly as most draft experts now say it’ll be Newton.

The latest sign the Panthers are honing in on Newton is Peter King’s report that Panthers officials requested game tape from Newton’s time at Blinn College.
