The 2011 NFL draft is just over a week away and we still don't have a very good idea of how many quarterbacks will go in the first round. The only two quarterbacks I'm sure will go in the first round are QB Blaine Gabbert and QB Cam Newton. Those will will be top 10, if not top five picks.
2011 NFL Draft: How Many First Round Quarterbacks?
The others? None are guaranteed first rounders.
QB Jake Locker will probably go in the first...but definitely a first rounder? I’m not sure you can say that.
SB Nation’s Mocking The Draft is running poll on the number of first round quarterbacks and most (82 percent) are predicting between 1-4 will go in the first round. 10 percent predict five quarterbacks and six percent predict six quarterbacks. There hasn’t been five first round quarterbacks picked since the 1999 NFL draft.
Mocking The Draft sees five quarterbacks going in the first round this year: Blaine Gabbert, Jake Locker, Ryan Mallett, Cam Newton and Christian Ponder.
I can definitely see all five of those going in the first round. Ponder and Mallet would probably be the two biggest question marks but, for different reasons, each could jump into the first round.
