Boston College Eagles linebacker Luke Kuechly could be a potential top-15 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, but first he needs to declare early entry for the April event. He has until Jan. 15 to do so, and it is expected to come down to the wire, reports Tony Pauline of NFL Draft Insider.
Luke Kuechly’s NFL Draft 2012 Decision Still Waiting To Be Made
Boston College linebacker Luke Kuechly needs to make the tough choice of declaring for the 2012 NFL Draft or returning to school for his senior season. He is the top middle linebacker in the draft.
The 6-foot-3, 237-pound linebacker enjoyed an outstanding season while playing for a poor Boston College team that went 4-8. Kuechly set a career-high in total tackles with 191 while reaching over 100 solo tackles for the second year in a row. He picked off three passes for a second straight year. It will be hard for Kuechly to match that production as a senior, possibly setting him up for a disappointing final season with Boston College.
In SB Nation's latest 2012 NFL mock draft, Ryan Van Bibber has Kuechly landing with the Philadelphia Eagles at the 15th overall pick:
The Eagles still need some help at linebacker, and Kuechly is the kind of middle linebacker that potential future defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo had in St. Louis with James Laurinaitis.
He is likely to be the first true linebacker taken in the draft while Alabama's Courtney Upshaw is an edge-rusher who will likely play on the line and standing up.
